Traditional shirt made with country cloth and embroidered, LiberiaIntroduction

Why does an ostensibly bicycle site have a section on handmade textiles in Africa? Simple: 1) part of our mission is to foster sustainability and cultural understanding around the world, 2) handmade textiles can be utilitarian and sustainable, 3) and it doesn't hurt that cloth is easy to collect during bicycle travel.

This essay mostly discusses textiles from areas that we have had projects and programs.  There is much more being created than is reflected here but hopefully this will peak your curiosity.

Selected piece of cloth are for sale.  They are linked from http://seattle.craigslist.org/search/art?query=African+cloth&srchType=A&minAsk=&maxAsk=
