Ian:
A rest day! Time to do washing, rest weary legs and shelter sunburns. Time to browse local
markets, shop for local music and bargain for avocados, pineapples and chipati.
And a surprise… the drums and beating music are not just people cranking
up the jukebox, but a major event across the road from our resthouse at
the parade grounds. The Fourth of July comes to town! Today is a
national holiday commemorating the overthrow of the old regime by
Museveni’s government: singing, dancing, parading soldiers, billowing
flags, all the vehicles in town are adorned with leaves and flowers, … a
constant flow of visitors to our resthouse for beer, sodas and
refreshments. |
