Program Price (lodging, two meals/day, guide, museum fees and more): US$1390
(less than six people add $100) (airfare is not included). Average out of pocket expenses per program: $100
plus or minus $50.
Description: Day 1: Durban. Check-in the hotel and do a little local sightseeing.
Day 2-4: Cycle along the Indian Ocean coast. Visit small towns, development projects,
schools, and farms. Day 5-8: Explore several nature reserves, learn about the flora and
fauna. Look at the competing interests of mining, tourism development and environmental
preservation in the area. Day 9-12: Continue our sojourn to the Drakensberg mountains
visiting villages, farm, and nature reserves, experience the day-in-a-life of a teacher
and visit rural health center. Day 13-14: Return to Durban and finish program.
Features: Small group, wonderful meetings with South Africans at schools,
development projects, social & environmental programs, visits to nature reserves,
villages and farms, home-stays and breathtakingly beautiful back roads bicycling.

Mileage Daily / Total Mileage: 45-100 km, 28-62 miles, starts with lower
mileage / 650km, 400 miles.
Cycling Conditions: 80% paved, 20% dirt, some hills.
Accommodations: Small & mid-size hotels, training center, village housing, no
tent camping.
Van Support: None. Local transport generally plentiful.
Meals Included: Two meals per day, generally breakfast and dinner (meat, chicken, rice,
pasta, potato, soup, corn, salad, fruit)
Other Activities: Walking, bus.
Bike: Mountain bike recommended. Bike Rental: Not
available.
